Hi, I'm Marlene

A First-Gen Marketer Passionate About Global Strategy & Community

I Am

a Mexican American, first-generation college student, and the first in my family to pursue a college education. Growing up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, a small peninsula with a tight-knit community, I developed a deep appreciation for helping others and learning new things. My curiosity has always driven me—whether it was through academics, sports, travel, or leadership.

Small Business, Big Lessons

For the past two years, I've been running a balloon decoration business with my cousin. We create colorful arrangements for weddings, birthdays, and local events. Through this small business, I've learned practical skills like dealing with customers, promoting our work on Instagram, and solving problems when things don't go as planned (like when balloons pop at the wrong time!). It's been both fun and challenging - we work hard to make each event special. This experience has taught me that even something playful like balloons requires real business skills. I'm proud that our decorations help people celebrate happy moments while giving me hands-on experience I can use in my marketing career.
